HUNTSVILLE — The Echo Dell schoolhouse, east of Pettigrew, was burned last night. School had opened Monday and many wild threats against complying with the vaccination ruling were heard. It is believed that a party of incensed patrons were guilty of the incendiarism. The building was a cheap frame structure, uninsured.

Will there be time for everybody to vote in Pulaski County in the Democratic Party primary next Tuesday? The County Democratic Committee is wondering. If all the registered voters — there are more than 102,000 — went to the polls, it would be a physical impossibility. But that never happens. If only 60,000 go to the polls, it will be a close squeeze to get them all in. But to ease what could be a tight situation as much as possible, County Democratic Chairman Carl D. McDaniel has issued a plea for Democratic voters to study the ballot ahead of time, bring a marked list if desired and be prepared to pull those levers when they step into the voting machine.

For the third time in a year, Little Rock voters will choose between a new form of city government and the status quo when they go to the polls Tuesday. The city’s seven-member Board of Directors is elected on a citywide basis, choosing a mayor from among themselves. The proposed change would lead to ward elections for seven of 10 city director positions, with a citywide election for mayor and three directors. The directors and mayor would be paid for the first time, and a city manager would be retained as the administrative head of the city.

HOOVER, Ala. — Houston Nutt found himself in familiar surroundings Thursday, but there was something different about his 11th consecutive appearance at SEC football media days. The dark blue suit and red tie Nutt wore looked like what he has donned for official duties as Arkansas’ coach, but a closer inspection revealed a small “Ole Miss” pin on the left lapel of his jacket. Nutt is getting ready for his first season as the Rebels’ coach after a 10-year run at Arkansas, which ended Nov. 26 when he resigned under pressure. “After 10 years, we knew it was time to go,” said Nutt, who had a 75-48 record at Arkansas with eight bowl teams, but ultimately too many offthe-field distractions.
