BASKETBALL

LR Hall to honor former coach

Little Rock Hall High School will host Oliver B. Elders Night for its season opener on Nov. 12.

Elders spent 35 years in the Little Rock School District as the boys head coach of Horace Mann and Hall high schools. He retired in 1993 with 656 victories and was selected to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame earlier this year.

A reception to honor Coach Elders and his former players will be held between the Hall and Van Buren girls and boys games. Anyone who played for Coach Elders is asked to contact Coach Jon Coleman (501) 838-1993), Coach Ahmad Martin (501) 2692639) or Coach Melvin Bullock (501) 940-1521).

MEN’S GOLF

ASU, UALR second and third in Texas Arkansas State University finished second at the UTSA/Lone Star Shootout in San Antonio on Tuesday, while the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was third.

The Red Wolves finished with a 580, falling to the host Texas-San Antonio by two strokes at the TPC Oaks Course. UALR shot a 589.

Individual­ly, ASU’s Zan Luka Stirn (70-70) and Sean Meehan (68-72) finished tied for the lead with a 140. Joel Wendin of Arkansas State finished fourth with a 142 (71-71). Justin Warren of UALR finished tied for fifth with a 144 (72-72). UALR’S Aaron Ramos finished tied for 10th with a 146 (73-73). Henderson, Harding participat­e in Missouri Henderson State University finished fourth at The Mule in Warrensbur­g, Mo., on Tuesday.

The Reddies shot a 854 for the 54-hole tournament. Washburn was first with a 845, while Central Missouri was second with an 846 and Central Missouri’s “B” team was third with an 852. Harding University finished seventh with a 862.

Individual­ly, Harding’s Ryan Camras finished tied for sixth with a 209, tying the 54-hole record set by Alex Williamson at the 2017 NCAA Midwest/Central Regional.

Cameron McRae of Henderson State finished tied for 14th with a 213 while his teammates Kevin Boutier (214) and Kasoma Paulino (214) finished tied for 18th.

SAU wins in Oklahoma

Southern Arkansas University won the Great American Conference Preview at Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

The Muleriders finished with an 829 in the 54-hole tournament, beating Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State by three strokes. Oklahoma Bapitst was fourth with a 838. The University of Arkansas at Monticello was sixth at 876.

Individual­ly, Southern Arkansas’ Roman Timmerman finished second with a 204 and Kade Johnson was third at 205. Kyle West finished tied for 12th with a 211. Kevin Elder finished tied for 14th with a 212 and Calum Graham was tied for 16th with a 214.

WOMEN’S GOLF

ASU 7th, UALR 12th in Missouri Arkansas State University finished seventh with a 911 while the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was 12th with a 936 at the Missouri State University Payne Stewart Memorial Tournament in Springfiel­d, Mo.

Memphis won the team title with a 860, beating UTEP by 13 strokes.

Individual­ly, ASU’s Grayson Gladden finished tied for 27 with a 227 (77-75-75). UALR’s Emelie Blennow finished tied for 37th with a 231 (75-77-79).

UCA women 15th in New Mexico

The University of Central Arkansas finished 15th on Tuesday at the the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Tournament in Albuquerqu­e, N.M.

The Bears finished with a 916 (305-298-313). Kent State won the tournament with an 858.

Individual­ly, Central Arkansas’ Emma Svensson finished tied for 47th at 224 (76-72-76).

Henderson State, UA-Fort Smith tie for 8th Henderson State and University of Arkansas at Fort Smith finished tied for eighth Tuesday at the Northeaste­rn State University Golf Classic in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Lady Reddies and Lady Lions finished with a 36-hole total of 623. Harding University finished 15th with a 648. Oklahoma Christian won the tournament with a 594.

Individual­ly, Mallery Horn of the UAFS finished tied for ninth with a 150 (74-76). Henderson State’s Taylor Loeb, Hanna Brauburger, Taylor Reed and Sydney Stiener all finished tied for 27th with at 157. Harding’s Delaney Bowles finished tied for 41st with a 159.

Gloria Choi of Southweste­rn Oklahoma State won with a 143.

MEN’S SOCCER

Lyon blows out Evangel

Lyon College scored four goals in the second half to beat Evangel College 6-2 in Batesville on Tuesday.

Estiven Garcia scored two goals to lead Lyon (2-3-0) while Eledoro Martinez, Sebastian Musiet , Marcos Fernandez and Emanuel Santos also scored. Vicente Alamos made three saves for Lyon.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Harding falls to Missouri Southern Courtney Martin scored in the 103rd minute to give Missouri Southern (3-0-1) a 2-1 victory over Harding University (0-4-0) in Joplin Mo., on Tuesday.

Harding’s Bethany Sutherland tied the game in the 85th minute after Missouri Southern’s Andrea Gamez scored in the 78th minute.

VOLLEYBALL

Harding tops Arkansas Tech

Madison Poen led Harding University (6-6, 1-0 Great American Conference) with 17 kills and 19 digs in the Lady Bisons’ 20-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-22 victory over Arkansas Tech University in Searcy on Tuesday night.

Hunter Eshnaur led Arkansas Tech (7-6, 1-1) with 11 kills and 14 digs.

OBU sweeps SAU

Paige Williams had 9 kills, Stormi Leonard had 33 assists and Julianna Mack had 22 digs to lead Ouachita Baptist University (11-3, 2-0 GAC) over Southern Arkansas University 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 in Arkadelphi­a on Tuesday night.

Lexie Kruses led SAU (3-9, 0-2) with 13 assists.
