Choose the right appliances

&hoosing appliances for the home involves big decisions. A variety of choices range from state-of-the-art features to modern finishes. The following are some tips to help consumers select appliances.

Shoppers should begin their research at home before they enter a store. Make a list of desired product features. This will help narrow the search and allow you to focus on your decision. Speak with family, friends and associates to determine a brand and retailers. Johnston’s Home Center has been a family-owned business since 1979, said Joe Johnston, owner, and the business services all appliances it sells. The business offers a variety of brands, including Frigidaire, GE, Maytag and Samsung, he said.

Seventy-eight percent of consumers are not satisfied with the drying results of their current dishwasher, Johnston said. This is the No. 1 complaint with dishwasher­s outside of cleaning and quietness. GE has a new feature in its polymer-tub dishwasher­s called Dry Boost, he said. This system utilizes a heating element, a hotter rinse temperatur­e and a fan to achieve 30-percent better drying results. GE has also launched the first polymer-tub dishwasher with a third rack for silverware and Bottle Jet technology designed to clean baby bottles, sippy cups and hard-to-clean pots and pans.

Tired of looking at the fingerprin­ts and smudges on your stainless-steel appliances? There are now other color options available to complete kitchen suites to assist with eliminatin­g the chore of cleaning stainless appliances. GE has launched several color options over the past few years, he said. GE now offers a multitude of color options, with the normal colors of stainless, white and black, plus slate, black slate and black stainless. Additional­ly, the Café Distinct by Design Matte Collection, with the new colors of matte white and matte black, offers customizab­le handle and knob options (brushed bronze, brushed copper, brushed black and brushed stainless), allowing you to have a high-end kitchen unique to your neighborho­od.

Look for a retailer who can service your purchase. Johnston’s Home Center offers dependable service after the sale an all brands and products purchased at its retail operation at 1421 Military Road in Benton, Johnston said. He said service after the sale is what has set Johnston’s apart from big-box retailers over the business’s 39-year history.
