6A-EAST WEST MEMPHIS 24, PINE BLUFF 23

WEST MEMPHIS — Devin Olloway scored two electrifying touchdowns and the rest was up to a final West Memphis defensive stand as the Blue Devils edged past Pine Bluff 24-23 at Hamilton-Shultz Field.

Olloway scored a 41-yard touchdown in the second quarter in which he reversed his field after being trapped, and he added an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half.

West Memphis (9-0, 6-0 6A-East) clinched the East’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs with the victory. Pine Bluff falls to 2-6-1 and 2-4 with its fourth consecutive loss.

Trailing by one with 5:38 left to play and the ball at their own 10 with two timeouts left, the Zebras took a methodical approach that saw them advance the ball to the West Memphis 44.

Facing a fourth and 6 with 1:09 left in the game, Pine Bluff junior quarterback Shauwn Howell fired incomplete to Kentrell Murry to allow West Memphis to run out the clock.

Pine Bluff held a 7-0 lead, going 65 yards on its opening drive capped by a 3-yard touchdown by Braylon Moody.

West Memphis tied it on the first play of the second quarter on a 3-yard touchdown by senior Latavian Murry.

Olloway gave the Blue Devils the lead twice more, once with his 41-yard touchdown, and for good when he took the second-half kickoff all the way to make it 21-14.

West Memphis junior kicker Colin Clark booted a 26-yard field goal with 7:53 to play in the third quarter to make it 24-14.

Pine Bluff’s final points came on a 4-yard touchdown by Moody with 4:38 left in the third quarter and then on a safety when a high snap to West Memphis punter Caden Smith was kicked out of his own end zone to slice the Pine Bluff deficit to 24-23.
