Car-Mart up 16.6%; index climbs by 6.65

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, closed at 426.12 Friday, up 6.65.

Eight stocks fell and seven rose.

America’s Car-Mart jumped 16.6 percent in three times its average volume.

USA Truck lost 5.6 percent in light trading.

For the week, eight stocks declined, six advanced and one was unchanged.

America’s Car-Mart gained 11.3 percent for the week.

Windstream lost 20.5 percent for the week.

Total volume for the index was 27 million shares. The average daily volume for the week was 25.5 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
