Edwards named Ozarka College’s Academic All-Star
MELBOURNE — Wendell Edwards has been selected to represent Ozarka College as the Academic All-Star at the Arkansas Community
Colleges Awards Brunch in Little Rock. All-Star recipients receive a $500 scholarship to an
Arkansas public four-year college or university of their choice. Edwards will be recognized at the
ACC All-Star brunch on Oct. 16.
Minimum eligibility requirements for the honor include being an Arkansas resident, enrolled in an
Arkansas two-year college with the expectation to be enrolled in the same college through at least fall 2018, having completed a minimum of 24 credit hours toward an associate degree with the intent to graduate by summer 2019, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 in all credit coursework.
Edwards has earned a 4.0 grade-point average and plans to complete his Associate of Science in Business degree in December 2018. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Upon completion of his degree at Ozarka, Edwards plans to attend Arkansas Tech University in Russellville in spring 2019 to complete a degree in accounting. Edwards is active in his church and has assisted with youth athletics in his community.
Sapp named AAOA scholarship recipient
MELBOURNE — A $1,000 Arkansas Airport Operators Association scholarship has been awarded to Simeon Sapp of Cherokee Village.
Sapp has attended Ozarka College since May 2016 and plans to graduate in May 2019. Sapp is on track to earn an Associate of Applied Science Commercial Pilot degree.
After graduating, Sapp plans to become a flight instructor, which will help him gain the flight experience needed to be a missionary pilot.
Candler named UACCB 2018 Academic All-Star
BATESVILLE — Ashlyn Candler was selected as the University of Arkansas Community
College at Batesville’s 2018 Academic All-Star, receiving a $500 scholarship to UACCB for the fall 2018 semester, as well as a full-tuition transfer scholarship from a public four-year university in the state. She plans to graduate from
UACCB’s generic registered-nursing program in December, then attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Candler has been named to the chancellor’s list the past three semesters and to the dean’s list last semester. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has served on campus as a tutor and provided numerous volunteer hours with various organizations, including Help and Hope, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Independence County Humane Society. Candler’s mother is Marietta Candler, the Nursing and Allied Health Division chair at UACCB.
