■ Emily Weinman of Philadelphia, whose arrest after an altercation with police at a New Jersey beach over Memorial Day weekend last year was captured on video, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in the confrontation, which began when she refused to give officers her name after they asked her about the presence of alcohol on the beach.
■ Bill Felter, owner of Serious Brewing Co. in Howes Cave, N.Y., said the brewery acquired a bottle of beer from a ship that sank in 1886 and hopes to use it to develop a new brew if students at the State University of New York at Cobleskill are able to successfully extract yeast from the old beer.
■ Brittany Elliott, 34, of Cedar Hill, Tenn., who had turned on the gas in her home and later went to light the water heater, set off an explosion that left her and her two children injured, telling police that she wasn’t able to smell the gas leak in her house because she has no sense of smell.
■ Susan Collins, a Republican senator from Maine, is sponsoring a bill that would authorize the U.S. Treasury to mint $1 coins honoring former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, saying the coin will be a tribute to the Bushes’ “courage, duty, honor and compassion.”
■ David Cooke, chief executive officer of the Bridges Foundation in Rockledge, Fla., a facility for people with disabilities, was suspended by foundation directors after a caregiver was accused of impregnating a resident.
■ Megan Hendricks, 22, of Wentzville, Mo., was sentenced to 21 years in prison in the death of her 9-weekold son after police said she lied to doctors about her boyfriend’s abuse of the child.
■ Kevin Reynolds, a firefighter in Orlando, Fla., who was fired over a positive drug test, got his job back after arguing that the cocaine in his system was from coca tea that he bought while hiking Machu Picchu in Peru.
■ Terry Mitchell, 66, unaware that his wife, Debra, 66, had fallen behind his vehicle, accidentally ran over and killed her in the driveway of their Pennsylvania home, police said.
■ Jamya Norfleet, 21, and Taylor McMillon, 18, have been charged in the death of a 15-year-old girl after she was shot while leaving a high school basketball game in Kansas City, Mo., where two groups of people who had gotten into an argument were being escorted out of the event separately.
