■ Oscar nominees Glenn

Close and Black Panther costume designer Ruth

E. Carter were honored

Tuesday night at the 21st annual Costume Designers Guild Awards. Close received the guild’s spotlight award at the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton

Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. The guild paid homage to Carter’s illustrious designs with a career achievement award. Costume designer Betty Pecha Madden and screenwriter-director Ryan Murphy also were recognized for their work in film. Actress Kate Walsh hosted the awards. Close is nominated for a best actress Oscar for The Wife. Carter could become the first black American to win an Oscar for best costume designer for her work in Black Panther. Halle Berry, Michael Chiklis, Danai Gurira and Christina Hendricks served as presenters.

■ Actress Julia Roberts will be this year’s recipient of the George Eastman Award, given to honor contributions to the art of cinema. The George Eastman Museum in Rochester, N.Y., announced that it will honor the Pretty Woman and Steel Magnolias actress on May 2. Past recipients include Lauren Bacall, Charlie Chaplin, Gary Cooper and Meryl Streep. Museum director Bruce Barnes cites the breadth of Roberts’ career and roles over the past 30 years. She has earned a best actress Academy Award and three Golden Globes, along with more than a dozen other nominations. The museum says it established the George Eastman Award in 1955 as the first retrospective award to honor film work of enduring artistic value.

■ Alec Baldwin is worried about his safety after President Donald Trump reacted to the actor’s impersonation of him on Saturday Night Live by suggesting that there should be “retribution” for the comedy sketch show’s “Republican hit job.” Trump has long chafed at Baldwin’s pursed-lip, bewigged portrayal of him, and he had an especially strong reaction to the most recent show. “Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake

News NBC!” Trump tweeted Sunday. “Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!” He later called the news media “the enemy of the people” in all-capital letters. Baldwin initially responded on Twitter: “Trump whines. The parade moves on.” But a later tweet by Baldwin on Sunday was one of concern. “I wonder if a sitting President exhorting his followers that my role in a TV comedy qualifies me as an enemy of the people constitutes a threat to my safety and that of my family?”
