■ Vytautas Kirkliauskas and his wife, Neringa Kirkliauskiene, won Finland’s annual “wife carrying” race in which couples from more than a dozen countries compete by leaping over timber and wading through waisthigh water on a 278-yard obstacle course while one partner carries the other.
■ William Kenney, 30, of Billings, Mont., who is accused of fatally shooting his friend John Smathers, 25, and then shooting himself when the two thought they were dying after getting high on psychedelic mushrooms, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.
■ Ryan Caplette, 42, a Los Angeles police detective, was placed under citizen’s arrest and faces 75 misdemeanor counts after he was accused of secretly videotaping at least 37 men inside a restroom at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
■ Marian O’Briant, spokesman for the Blount County sheriff’s office in Tennessee, said police are investigating after three women and one man were treated for injuries at different hospitals, with all four saying they were bitten by a zebra at a privately owned farm.
■ Nakesia Washington, a travel agent from Harvey, La., who pleaded guilty to scamming 98 people out of more than $80,000 by selling them bogus vacation packages to the Essence Festival in New Orleans, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
■ Ricky Shivers, a county coroner in Mississippi, said 84-year-old Lester Ingram of Vaughan, Miss., died of injuries suffered when a bull attacked him outside a barn, with Shivers saying the bull pushed the elderly man down and mauled him.
■ Daniel James Burda, 36, was arrested in Oregon on charges of manslaughter and other counts in the death of Dennis Day, 76, an original member of Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club, who was reported missing a year ago.
