Hootie at Walmart AMP; Coyne exhibit opens

Pop-rockers Hootie & the Blowfish, on their “Group Therapy Tour” with Barenaked Ladies, perform at 7:30 p.m. today at the Walmart AMP, 5079 W. Northgate Road, Rogers, part of the Cox Concert Series. Gates open at 6. Tickets are $29.50-$129.50 plus fees.

King’s Mouth

King’s Mouth, an installati­on by Wayne Coyne, artist and front man of the rock band The Flaming Lips, goes on display Wednesday at 115 W. Emma Ave., Springdale. It’s an Off-Site project of the Arts Center of the Ozarks, made possible through a gift by the Tyson Family Foundation. An opening reception is set for 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to a news release, King’s Mouth is “an enormous metallic head, beckoning visitors to crawl inside its foam mouth, kick back, and experience a cascading LED light show synchroniz­ed to Flaming Lips music” that debuted in 2015 at Baltimore’s American Visionary Art Museum. To accompany the sculpture, Coyne has concocted a creation myth that he illustrate­d with a series of drawings and multi-media collages.

“The Group Exhibition,” on display 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, 2-11 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 1-7 p.m. Sunday through Aug. 23, will also include works by area artists Kat Wilson, Dillion Dooms and Sasha Rayevskiy. Admission is free. Call (479) 751-5441, email info@acozarks.org or visit acozarks.org.

MacArthur movie

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen Trans-Military, focusing on four individual­s who are serving in the U.S. military while concealing their gender identity, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday. ‘Musical Escapes’

Heritage grants

Nonprofit organizati­ons can apply for apply for grants of up to $5,000 from the Department of Arkansas Heritage to develop local events and projects that promote awareness and enjoyment of Arkansas heritage.

The grants can help organizati­ons “foster awareness and enjoyment of Arkansas heritage and to assist in planning and implementi­ng meaningful Arkansas projects such as exhibits, events or festivals and curriculum or teaching tools,” according to a news release.
