Bryant stays alive in Legion regional

Bryant defeated Fremont, Neb., 5-4 on Saturday in the American Legion Mid-South Regional at Duncan Field in Hastings, Neb.

Bryant (29-10) will meet Hastings, Neb., at 1:30 p.m. today, with the winner advancing to the championsh­ip game at 4:30 p.m.

Tied 2-2 going into the fourth inning, Noah Davis led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on an error by Fremont catcher Nicholas Hernik to make it 3-2.

Bryant made it 4-2 in the fifth inning when Logan Chambers singled and advanced to second on an error by left fielder Dawson Glause. After Logan Catton was hit by a pitch, a sacrifice bunt by Tristan Drennan moved Catton and Chambers to second and third. Jacob Wright was walked to load the bases, and Gage Stark’s sacrifice fly scored Chambers to make it 4-2.

Fremont closed to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Hernik reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, advanced to third on an error by the catcher Drennan and scored on a wild pitch by Will Hathcote.

Bryant pushed its lead to 5-3 in the sixth when Davis singled, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Peyton Dillon and scored on William Grant’s single.

Fremont closed to 5-4 in the seventh when Callahan reached when the third strike was dropped by Drennan, moved to second on another error by Drennan and to third on defensive indifferen­ce. He scored on Dillon Dix’s ground out.

Tyler Bates got Mitchell Glause to ground out, then struck out Brody Sintek swinging to end the game.
