SERIES Tied 43-43-6

LAST SEASON OBU won 38-10 at Henderson State.

NOTEWORTHY The last time so much was at stake in the Battle of Ravine was 2014 when an undefeated Ouachita Baptist team led by Auburn transfer Kiehl Frazier defeated Henderson State 41-20 at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium in front of 12,228. The victory lifted OBU to the undisputed GAC title and a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Henderson State was left out of the playoffs after the loss, and needs a victory today to earn a share of the GAC title and a postseason bid. … The teams rank near the top of the GAC and Division II in several statistical categories: OBU is No. 1 in third-down conversions (.619), fewest pass interceptions (1) and pass completion percentage (76.4), No. 4 in scoring defense (13.1 ppg) and No. 4 in tackles for loss allowed (37); Henderson State leads the nation with fewest lost fumbles (1) and tackles for loss allowed (29) and is No. 4 in sacks allowed (6). … OBU’s

Brayden Brazeal (126-165 passing, 1,506, 11 TDs, 1 INT.) and Henderson State’s

Richard Stammetti (204-332, 2,556, 24, 9) are the QBs, but WRs Allie Freeman of OBU (79-795, 6 TDs) and L’lliott Curry of Henderson State (74-1,019, 13) rank 1-2 in the GAC in receptions and are No. 4 and 7 in the nation. … OBU RB Brockton Brown (880 yards, 21 TDs) is No. 2 in the nation in rushing TDs; Henderson State’s rushing attack is led by Logan Moragne (123-724 rushing, 12 TDs).

COACHES Bill Keopple (64-53 in 11th season at SAU and overall); Hud Jackson (34-64 in ninth season at UAM and overall)

SERIES SAU leads 56-36-1

LAST SEASON UAM won 20-17 in Monticello.

NOTEWORTHY Two of the GAC’s top true freshman playmakers — UAM quarterback Demilon Brown and SAU all-purpose back O.B. Jones — will put their talents on display. Brown (65-109 passing, 836, 6 TDs, 4 INTs; 94-720 rushing, 5 TDs) took over as the starting QB in Week 4, and has mixed brilliance with occasional costly errors. “You’ve got to live with that,” Jackson said of his first-year player from Rivercrest. “He’s going to make great plays. It’s going to help us in the long run.” Jackson said the Boll Weevils will be a force to be reckoned with in the future, with all of their top skills players — Brown, RB Devontae Dean (792 rushing) and WRs DeAndre Washington (35-535, 6) and C.J. Parham (35-463, 4) — expected to return next season. The Boll Weevils need a victory to finish with a second consecutive 6-5 record in the GAC. … SAU is trying to avoid ending on a threegame losing streak for a second consecutive season, but the Muleriders showed plenty of fight in last Saturday’s 38-31 loss to Henderson State in Arkadelphia. The Muleriders unleashed a spark plug in Jones, who scored twice — on a 9-yard run out of the Wildcat formation in the first half and on a game-tying 21-yard reception late in the fourth quarter. Jones, 6-2, 194 pounds, has now scored 7 touchdowns, and SAU Coach Bill Keopple said the future is bright for the first-year player from Tatum High School in Henderson, Texas. “He can catch, run, he can do it all,” Keopple said. “He’s going to be a great player for us.” … Junior QB Hayden Mallory has thrown for 1,995 yards and 16 TDs in his first year as the starter. … Win or lose, the Muleriders will record a fifth consecutive winning season and are 38-18 since the beginning of 2015.
