Georgia DE Jaqualin McGhee commits to Razorbacks.
University of Arkansas football Coach Sam Pittman has landed his 10th recruit with the addition of defensive end Jaqualin McGhee on Saturday when he announced his oral commitment to the Hogs.
McGhee, 6-4, 255 pounds, of Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach County, had scholarship offers from Kansas State,
West Virginia, Cincinnati, Troy, Western Kentucky and others.
He’s expected to make an official visit to Fayetteville on Jan. 17.
Peach County Coach Chad Campbell said
Pittman won McGhee over.
“I think it was just the genuineness of Coach Pittman,” Campbell said.
Campbell talked to Pittman on Dec. 12 and asked him to look at McGhee’s film. A few minutes later, Pittman called back with an offer.
“When I asked him to look at his film, I think Jaqualin just automatically jumped off to him,” Campbell said.
McGhee’s cousin Tyrique McGhee is a senior defensive back at Georgia. He recorded 65 tackles, 8 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, a pass breakup and a blocked punt in his second year to play football. He had 55 tackles, 5 sacks, 5 tackles for loss and 4 quarterback hurries as junior.
National recruiting analyst Tom Lemming of CBS Sports Network rates him a 3-star recruit. Campbell said McGhee has a big upside.
“He’s understanding the game more, the more experience he gets,” Campbell said. “He’s a big physical athletic kid that can run that may develop into an inside technique. I think he has the ability to hold weight between 285 and 300 and be a kid that’s very agile. It may be the case where he’s a defensive end now but could grow into an inside guy. He’s got long arms. He’s scratching the surface right now.”
The Hogs signed nine prospects during the early signing period on Dec. 18-20. McGhee plans to ink with Arkansas on Feb. 5.
