They just do not care

-

The generation that did not care played games and Snapchat on their computers and phones. They knew history but didn’t care. They saw the controlling and evil influence of racism, bigotry, and anti-Semitism, but did not care.

I have spent 40 years following the news and politics. I spent three years in the military to defend our great democracy. I spent 20 years fighting for liberty, democracy, and progressivism. I cared.

The only generation who cared enough to fight for and vote for their cause is the generation who grew up in the 1950s. They are older, whiter, and laissez-faire capitalists.

The generation currently in their late teens, 20s and 30s is not ignorant. They didn’t care. They knew they could have made a difference, but would rather stay in their technology bubbles of false security.

I and my wife have at least 30 more years on this Earth. The world is going to keep burning and flooding. The rich and powerful are going to expand their wealth and power because the younger generation did not care.

They’d rather complain about their economic despair, but won’t do what it takes to change the economic dynamics. They say they want nothing to do with politics, but will watch and read The Handmaid’s Tale as entertainment.

I have tried to get my children and their friends to see the importance of politics and history, but they didn’t care.

When I’m on my death bed in 20 to 30 years and my children and their generation realize they didn’t do enough to stop the world from chaos and they are living in a theocratic autocracy, I will say to them, I tried, but you did not care.
