SWAC MEN ALCORN STATE 82, UAPB 54

Alcorn State (8-9, 4-2 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) broke a 20-20 tie with 4:53 left in the first half and didn’t look back, leading by as many as 29 points and as few as 14 in the second half as it cruised to the victory over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (3-14, 2-3) at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

Deshaw Andrews powered the Braves with 30 points. Maurice Howard added 13 points and 6 rebounds, and Troymain Crosby had 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Artavious McDyess led the Golden Lions with 12 points, and Marquell Carter added 11 points. Markedric Bell had 9 points and 6 rebounds.

Alcorn State shot 51% from the floor and 81.5% from the foul line. The Braves scored 21 points off of turnovers and 20 points in the paint.

UAPB shot 35.3% from the floor and 60.9% from the foul line. The Golden Lions scored 26 points in the paint, got 25 points from their bench.

SWAC WOMEN ALCORN STATE 77, UAPB 75

A three-pointer by Kirdis Clarke with 7:20 to play in the fourth quarter gave Alcorn State its first lead since late in the first half, and the Braves (8-10, 4-2) went on to beat the Lady Lions (3-12, 2-3) in Pine Bluff.

Clark led Alcorn State with 23 points, and Diamond Hall added 22 points and 9 rebounds.

UAPB, which took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter, got a 20-point, six-rebound performanc­e from Kyeonia Harris.

Noe’ll Taylor added 16 points and 8 rebounds, and Aiya El Hassan scored 12 points.

Alcorn State, which scored 25 points on turnovers, shot 45.3% from the floor and 73.7% from the foul line. They also hit 5 of 7 three-point attempts.

UAPB shot 44.3% from the floor and 85% from the foul line.

The Lady Lions were 4 of 11 on three-pointers.
