TRACK AND FIELD Arkansas men win two events
The University of Arkansas men’s team won two races Friday at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
Carl Elliott III won the 60-meter hurdles in 7.795. Laquan Nairn won the long jump by clearing 25 feet, 23/4 inches which is the ninth best in the nation.
Jalen Brown finished second in the 400 in 47.33 with Lesley Mahlakoane and Hunter Woodhall finishing third and fourth.
Kieran Taylor finished third in the 800 in 1:49.94. Rashad Boyd was fourth in the 200 (21.27).
Paris Peoples led the Arkansas women with the sixth-fastest time (53.69) in the 400 this season, while Morgan Burks-Magee (24.20) and Rosey Effong (24.32) were third and fourth.
The 1,600 relay team of Peoples, Tiana Wilson, Burks-Magee and Effong won in 3:38.16.
Daszay Freeman took third in the 60 hurdles (8.28), while G’Auna Edwards was fourth at 8.29.
Lauren Martinez was second in the pole vault with a jump of 13-53/4. Edwards was third in the long jump at 20-9 3/4 .
ASU runs in pair of meets
Arkansas State University ran in the Green and Gold Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., and the Don DeNoon Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., on Friday.
In Birmingham, Elizabeth Martin led ASU’s women with a victory in the mile in 5:04.95. Pauline Meyer won the 3,000 in 9:52.51, while Elizabeth Gillette was second in 10:05.07. Imani Udoumana won the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 10 3/4 inches. Jaela Hollie was second in the 60 (7.72). Alexis Woodall was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.98.
Ethan Mychajlonka led ASU’s men by winning the 3,000 (8:38.79). Courtney Thomas won the triple jump (46-8 3/4) and Frank Massey won the high jump (6-10 1/4). Thomas was second in the 60 (6.93), while Seth Waters finished second in the 800 (1:54.75).
In Illinois, Grace Flowers led ASU’s women by finishing third in the weight throw (61-8). Eron Carter was second in the weight throw in the men’s competition with a throw of 62-8.
