EARNEST FINGERS

was born on March 24, 1924, in Allport, Ark., to the late Earnest and Margaret Crawford Fingers. He was the third of seven siblings. The Lord called him home on February 4, 2020. After 34 years of service, Earnest retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He and his late brother Andrew enjoyed

working on interior and exterior home improvement projects, part-time. He loved to fish, bowl, and watch major and minor league baseball, as well as other sports.

He also served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. His community service included membership in the National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees, NAACP, Dunbar Alumni, and many others. Earnest united with the Mount Zion Baptist Church, and was Baptized at an early age under the pastorate of the late Reverend Fred T. Guy. He remained a faithful and active “Golden” member (50+years member) until his illness prevented his regular attendance. As a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, he served as the President & a soloist, a member of the Men’s Sunday School class and the Ascenders’ Club.

Earnest met and married Clarice Turner, who preceded him in death, and later married the late Maggie Carrigan. He is survived by his sons; Earnest Jr.(Diane) and Edmond. His daughters; Margaret Shovlin (Harry), Willie Virginia Williams and Cassandra Steele (Tracy). He also leaves to cherish his memory his sister, LR City Director Erma Fingers-Hendrix. His brother; Saul Fingers (Mable) and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 908 Cross Street, Little Rock, Arkansas, with Rev. John W. Smith Jr. pastor. Interment will be in Haven of Rest Cemetery by Paradise Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
