Sessions to teach about data portal

The city of Little Rock is partnering with the Central Arkansas Library System to provide opportunities for residents to learn how to use the city’s open data portal for the third annual series of Open Data Day events.

The four events will be held on Saturdays in March and April at the following times and locations:

▪ March 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at Adolphine Fletcher Terry Library, 2015 Napa Valley Drive.

▪ March 14 from 1-3 p.m. at John Gould Fletcher Library, 823 N. Buchanan St.

▪ March 28 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Dee Brown Library, 6325 Baseline Road.

▪ April 4 from 2-4 p.m. at Roosevelt Thompson Library, 38 Rahling Circle.

“Providing equal access to information is the foundation of the public library, so we welcome the opportunity to invite the community into our spaces to learn about what resources are available to them and how technology can be used in various aspects of their lives,” Mark Christ, head of adult programming for the system, said in a news release from the city.

The sessions seek to educate the public on city data that is available to them, including the number of potholes in an area, the frequency and type of code violations for different parts of the city, what planning permits have been issued, police activity in any city neighborhood and business licenses issued.

The events are open to residents, college and high school students, and members of the media. The sessions will include hands-on learning activities such as data scavenger hunts.

Vote set on sign for Broadway span

The Little Rock city board is to vote Tuesday on the installation of a sign memorializing veterans on the south side of the Broadway bridge.

In 2017, the Arkansas Department of Transportation dedicated the Broadway bridge on U.S. 70 as Veterans Memorial Bridge in honor of those who served in the armed forces.

The North Little Rock City Council has already authorized installation of a sign on the north side of the bridge.

Library system set to mark 110 years

The Central Arkansas Library System will celebrate its 110th anniversary with an open house in downtown Little Rock on Saturday.

Visitors can stop in the Galleries at Library Square to view the exhibitions, browse at handmade jewelry and peruse other works by Arkansas artists. There will be refreshments.

The system will also share information about its new campaign about what it means to be a library in the 21st century.

The open house is 1-3 p.m. The galleries are in the Bobby Roberts Library at 401 President Clinton Ave.
