Dutch Colonial home offers best of rural living

-

Built on the shore of Old River Lake in Scott, this three-bedroom, three-bath home offers striking Dutch Colonial style. The home’s interior features stunning antique woodwork, much of it salvaged from antebellum homes.

Sidelights flank the home’s front door, which opens to a gracious two-story foyer. The space is illuminated by a lantern-style fixture, and the hardwood floor continues into the living room, study, formal dining room and master bedroom. An upstairs landing overlooks both the foyer and the living room.

A vaulted two-story ceiling soars above the spacious living room, and large windows provide abundant natural light.

At one end of the living room, the site-built brick woodburning fireplace is finished with a stained-wood mantelpiece and flanked by built-in bookshelves and bench seating. The study is positioned just off the living room.

Lit by a vintage-style chandelier, the kitchen has two large windows and has stained-oak cabinetry, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, a microwave/vent hood and a gas stove. There is space for a breakfast table in the kitchen. Across the hall from the kitchen, the formal dining room has a lofty 20-foot ceiling, sconce lighting and large windows, as well as two built-in corner cabinets.

Positioned on the home’s main level, the master bedroom has his-and-hers closets.

The en suite bath has a tile floor, a travertine-topped single-sink vanity, a plate-glass mirror, a garden tub and a tiled shower.

Upstairs are two carpeted bedrooms; each is generously sized, with space for a sitting area.

One bedroom has a private bath with a pedestal sink and a walk-in shower; the other bedroom is next to the hall bath, which has a single-sink vanity and a tub/shower combination.

Ideal for outdoor living, a shaded porch extends across the back of the home, offering a beautiful view of the lake.

There is also a floating dock that provides easy access to the water for fishing and exploring.

A few of the home’s other amenities include a main-level laundry room/half bath, crown molding and gorgeous woodwork, insulated windows and doors, a two-car garage and more.

In addition to the main house, there is a charming 672-square-foot guest cottage, constructed in 1900, that has a living area, a kitchen, a bedroom and a full bath.

This home, at 13707 Lower Steele Bend Road in Scott, has about 3,203 square feet, rests on about 12 acres and is listed for $425,000 with Allison Pickell of Coldwell Banker RPM, Midtown. No open house is planned for today. For more information, contact Pickell at 501-920-2392 or apickell@cbrpm.com.
