FORT SMITH — Lucy Jane Johnson Owen,

75, of Fort Smith, Ark., daughter of the late Madeline Markle and David Leslie Johnson, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

Born on January 24, 1945, in Little Rock, Ark., Lucy attended Centennial Elementary, Westside Jr. High, and Little Rock Central High School where she was a member of the Hi Stepper Dance Team and the Varsity Cheerleadi­ng squad.

She eloped with the love of her life, Thomas Cline Owen, Jr. on July 5, 1962, and they enjoyed a 58-year marriage for better or for worse, in sickness and in health until God called her home.

Throughout her life, Lucy held firmly to her faith in God and the promise of Life Eternal through Jesus Christ. A devoted wife, mom, grandmothe­r, and homemaker, Lucy’s most fulfilling calling was her family. She was also a loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Lucy’s talents were many. She modeled fashions for Forsythe’s and Dorothy Bentley’s on occasion, and she enjoyed working with dear friends at “A Very Special Tearoom.”

Serving the Church was very important to Lucy. She worked in Childcare at Trinity United Methodist Church, and at Westover Hills Presbyteri­an Church, she was involved in Presbyteri­an Women, The Fellowship Committee, the Kitchen Committee and was responsibl­e for catering Wednesday night church suppers and other special events.

An excellent cook, Lucy was called upon to cater many events outside the Church and was especially famous for her madefrom-scratch homemade pies and her Aunt Manie’s Cheese Biscuits.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Leslie Johnson, Jr.; and a sister, Sadie Davis Johnson Williams; a dear niece, Susan Williams, and numerous beloved aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish and honor her memory are her husband, Thomas Cline Owen, Jr. of Fort Smith, Ark.; a daughter, Melanie Owen Webre (Matthew) of Fort Smith, Ark.; a son, Thomas Cline Owen III (April) of Little Rock; four grandchild­ren, Barret Matthew Miller (Rebecca) of Springdale, Ark., Michael Owen Miller of North Little Rock, Marian Ashley Owen (Jacob North) of Little Rock, and Thomas Cline Owen, IV of Little Rock. Lulu, as she was nicknamed by her grandchild­ren, was blessed to enjoy the arrivals of two great-grandsons in 2018, Jackson Owen North and Wesley James Miller.

A Celebratio­n of Life Memorial Service will be Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at 11 a.m., in the sanctuary at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Dr., Little Rock, Ark., 72205. The family will receive friends and family in the Gathering Hall following the service. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home, Fort Smith, Ark.
