MEMPHIS — Betty C. Burt Spillyards,

94, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Monday, March 2, 2020 at Methodist Hospice in Memphis.

She was born June 21, 1925 in Champaign, Illinois, daughter of Clarence Edward Burt and Evelyn Elizabeth Shrider Burt.

Mrs. Spillyards was reared and received her early education in Sidney, Illinois, graduating from Sidney High School.

After moving to Arkansas, she worked for The Doctor’s Clinic and Jefferson Regional Medical Center for many years as a medical transcript­ionist. She was known for her sign language skills. Mrs. Spillyards would be called throughout the hospital when needed to help patients and hospital personnel communicat­e when needed.

While living in Pine Bluff, Mrs. Spillyards was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She moved to North Little Rock in 1996 and moved her membership to Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Leroy Spillyards; son, Kenneth Spillyards; daughter, Karen May; and her parents. Survivors include her son, Roger Spillyards of Memphis, Tennessee; brother, Robert Burt; sister, Doris Werts; five grandchild­ren, Greg Spillyards, Brad May, Susanne May, Michael Spillyards and Melody Gruene; and eight great-grandchild­ren.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery with Dr. Don Taylor officiatin­g. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m., Friday at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors in Pine Bluff.
