CABOT — Paul David Mahoney,

79, of Cabot, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020 at his home. He was born September 3, 1940 in Cabot to the late Elmer Lewis and Vera Louise Staggs Mahoney. Paul was a sergeant with the Little Rock Police Department for twenty years. He served his community as a police officer during the civil rights era and also received a letter of commendati­on for saving a child. After his retirement from the police department, he drove a truck for five years. Paul also served his country in both the Army National Guard and the Arkansas Air National Guard. He was a good, gentle, patient man with a very contagious laugh, and was loved by all who knew him. Paul loved all children. He had many hobbies that included camping, traveling, reading Louis L’Amour western books and old country music. He was a loving father and doting “Poppa” and his family meant the world to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nina Ruth Mahoney and brother, George Roy Mahoney.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Mahoney; his four children, Randy Wayne Mahoney, Richie Allen Mahoney, Byron Lewis Mahoney and Beverly Hensley; his other children, Susan Mary Adams, Rachel Marie Parent, Lisa Marie Parker and Gerald Joseph Parent; sixteen grandchild­ren, Shawnee, Brandy, Ragan, Farrah, Timothy, Brandon, Trever, Josh (Michael), Kylie, Jett, Cole, Ashley, Taylor, William, Meredith and Jer-Bear; six great-grandchild­ren and his brother, Elmer Lewis Mahoney.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 at Russell Chapel Church of the Nazarene at the corner of Highway 89 and Mahoney Road in Cabot. Interment will follow at King Cemetery in Cabot.
