HOT SPRINGS — Larry Dean (L.D.) Fuhrman

of Hot Springs passed away March 2, 2020, in Hot Springs. He was born October 17, 1927, in Gillett, Arkansas, to the late Clara Rose and Simon Fuhrman.

Larry was preceded in death by brother, H. Dale Fuhrman; brother-in-law, Lawrence Alderman; nieces, Cathy Woods, Tracy Fuhrman; nephews, Jon Fuhrman, and Freddie Perritt. Survivors include his wife, Correne Monahan Fuhrman, whom he married on September 5, 1954, at First Methodist Church in Gillett, Arkansas. They have two children, Carol Fuhrman Shinall (Lance) of Allen, Texas, L. Mark Fuhrman (Tina) of Little Elm, Texas; grandchild­ren, Lauren Shinall Jones (Coby), Lindsey Shinall Kruse (Brier), Lesley Shinall, Justin Fuhrman, Sarah Fuhrman; great-granddaugh­ter, Brinkley Elise Jones; brothers, Leland Fuhrman (Marion), Gary Fuhrman (Sue); sister, Elizabeth Ann Fuhrman Alderman; sisters-in-law, Lillie Fuhrman, Betty Fuhrman; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Larry was a lifelong Christian and member of First Lutheran Church in Hot Springs. He was active in the churches where he lived, holding a number of positions in these churches, including chairman of building committees at two churches, elder, Sunday school supt., trustee, and participat­ed in many activities.

Larry graduated from Gillett High School and trained as a pilot at age 17. He graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautic­s as an Airline Service Mechanic with an FAA Aircraft and Engine Mechanics License at age 18. Larry worked in Iowa as an aircraft line mechanic then later returned to Arkansas and began a career in farm equipment.

Larry continued part time in aviation and obtained a single engine land and sea plane commercial pilot license with an instrument rating. In addition, he flew on plane skis for nearly 50 years, making many off airport landings. Larry also flew with the Memphis Squadron and the Civil Air Patrol Search and Rescue.

After four years in his hometown he was hired by Massey Harris Co. as a branch service representa­tive. Later he was hired by Ford Motor Co. Tractor and Implement Divisions as a Regional Service Rep. He held the role of training and service for distribute­rs in North America, planetary transmissi­on training, harvesting manager, North America Combine Sales Manager, Territory Sales and Marketing Manager over a span of 33 years.

Larry was a board member and president of South Shore. He also enjoyed traveling, including many trips to Hawaii, and many hobbies including welding and woodworkin­g, while at home and at his son’s farm.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church with a celebratio­n of Larry’s life immediatel­y following at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Gillett, Arkansas City Cemetery.
