TEXARKANA — Kenneth Wayne (Ken) Cowling,

age 72, of Texarkana, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, March 2, 2020 at his home. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Shay Cowling, and his parents, Otto and Alleene Cowling.

Ken was born in Foreman, Arkansas on September 13, 1947, and graduated from Foreman High School and later from Southern Arkansas University with degrees in Accounting and Education. He was the founder and owner of Cowling Title Company furnishing Title Insurance Services to multiple office locations across the State.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Elaine Cowling of Texarkana, Arkansas; three brothers, Larry Cowling of Foreman, Arkansas; Richard Cowling of Foreman, Arkansas, Otto Cowling Jr. of Foreman, Arkansas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Mickey Trammell of Texarkana, Texas; Carolyn and Robert Frost of Denison, Texas, along with other family, friends, and associates.

After working for State First National Bank following graduation, he later was teacher and coach at Foreman Schools. He had worked in the title insurance business since 1972 and later formed his own company, a company recognized as a statewide leader and one of its underwrite­r’s largest agent. Ken over the years was involved in community and civic work in Little River County having served as President of the Foreman School Board and also President of the Chamber of Commerce.

Ken served as State Representa­tive for Little River and Miller County where he received several awards, including Legislator of the Year by multiple organizati­ons. Legislatio­n passed included Funding for Arkansas Pre-School Programs, Tax Reductions from sales tax on manufactur­ing utility costs, and multiple bills assisting local government entities. Ken served on several state boards after retiring from the Legislatur­e. Ken was the Production and Promotion Chairman for Tracy Lawrence Charities for fifteen years.

He was Sunday School Director and Teacher for Beech Street First Baptist Church as well as serving on various committees.

He was an Avid Razorback fan and Scholarshi­p donor.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Beech First Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Jenkins officiatin­g. The family will receive friends at the church 12:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Dollarhide Cemetery in Foreman, Arkansas, under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.
