Southern Arkansas University “feels like home” for students, thanks to the culture of caring that has been embraced by faculty, staff and administration since the school’s establishment in 1909. SAU has been built on its dedication to student achievement in the classroom and online with more than 80 degrees in four distinct colleges, as well as the School of Graduate Studies. SAU’s academic programs are ranked nationally for quality and affordability, with an exciting mix of traditional offerings and new degrees.
SAU’s bachelor’s degree program in engineering has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. This assures that SAU’s engineering graduates enter the workforce ready to lead in innovative fields.
SAU also has a new trap-shooting team, following the successful additions of eSports, bass fishing and disc golf. The Mulerider trap-shooting team utilizes the new Farmers Bank & Trust Trap Shooting Range on the university-owned Laney Farm north of the Magnolia campus. Along with the new trap-shooting range, Laney Farm serves many recreational, educational and conservational uses for SAU, including the site of SAU’s new Sensitive Scientific Study Area. This area is where field research and other educational activities are conducted by the biology department.
The Gaming Hub, a new gaming lab, is a space in the Reynolds Center where students can hang out and play video games. The Hub features 18 computers, as well as PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The university’s eSports and Competitive Gaming Program is growing by leaps and bounds and looks to add more options to SAU’s generous slate of game offerings.
The SAU community, consisting of students, faculty and staff from around the world, exemplifies a culture of caring that makes SAU feel like home.
