OVERVIEW

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is an 1890 land-grant historically black college or university with a diverse student population, competitive degree offerings and stellar faculty. For more than 140 years, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has worked to create an environment that inculcates learning, growth and productivity while providing a high-quality, affordable education.

The 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio makes it possible to maintain a learning environment with close interaction between students and faculty, while challenging curricula encourage our students to seek and fulfill their potential.

ACADEMICS

Students can excel in their chosen field of study through a curriculum of four associate-degree programs, 40 undergraduate programs, nine master’s-degree programs and a doctoral program in aquaculture/fisheries. New programs include agricultural engineering, hospitality and tourism management and an associate-to-bachelor program in partnership with Southeast Arkansas College.

The Learning Institute and Opportunities for New Students (LIONS) program is one of the larger bridge programs offered at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. With more than 200 students enrolled each summer, each student can take six hours of courses, enjoy social and entertainment activities, attend tutoring sessions and engage in College Knowledge enrichment courses that discuss everything from time management to career planning. The STEM Summer Academy is available for students majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields to help prepare them for college life and the rigor of STEM curricula. Through this program, students are involved in team-building activities, networking, bonding, study groups, meeting professional STEM role models and understanding the expectations of a STEM professional. The STEM Academy has a 90 percent graduation rate.

Students at UAPB also have the opportunity to expand their horizons with international programs through a partnership with Generation Study Abroad.

FACILITIES

UAPB has recently upgraded and expanded its nursing simulation lab, providing more opportunity for additional students to gain clinical knowledge and skills through hands-on simulation.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Out-of-class experiences and student involvement include more than 120 student organizations, an internationally renowned Vesper Choir, the highly sought after Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South marching band, concert bands, a wind symphony, a nationally recognized debate team, an award-winning theater department and a Division I athletics program.

The quality of student life is enhanced with access to fitness facilities: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, basketball courts and beautiful common areas in the quadrangle. Students like spending time in the Lion’s Den, where they can purchase items from Starbucks and Chick-fil-A Express.

ONLINE OPPORTUNITIES

Though the main campus is in Pine Bluff, its reach is worldwide. UAPB has an extended campus in North Little Rock and offers online courses. With the addition of the Arkansas Research and Education Optical Network, students can engage in information exchange with others anywhere in the world. There are also research and extension offices in Lonoke, Newport and Lake Village, as well as collaborations with other colleges and universities in the state through the National Science Foundation-funded STEM Academy.
