RUSSELLVIL­LE — Millicent Corean King Cook,

age 84, of Russellvil­le died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Ledgestone Assisted Living in Austin, Texas. She was born February 2, 1936, in Weir, Miss., to Arnett King and Bessie Olene Stephenson King.

Millicent was a servant leader who dedicated her life to empowering others through education. After receiving degrees from Millsaps College and Emory University, she taught elementary, junior high, and high school students. Her public education career culminated in her role as a secondary school counselor.

Millicent was involved in numerous organizati­ons within her church and community, such as United Methodist Women, Manna House, chancel choir, PEO, Symphony Guild, Literacy Council, and Pope County Democratic Women.

Throughout her life, Millicent modeled unconditio­nal love and generous hospitalit­y to all she encountere­d. Her family devotion and gracious spirit will continue to live through all those she has touched.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen King. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, M. Olin Cook of Russellvil­le, Ark.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Randy West and Leslie and Patrick Rhode all of Dripping Springs, Texas; and four grandchild­ren and their spouses, Garrett and Pilar Jones of Dallas, Texas, Connor Jones of Austin, Texas, Chelsea West of Austin, Texas, and Anna and Philip Rhode of Dripping Springs, Texas.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Russellvil­le First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tony Griffin officiatin­g. A private family burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellvil­le. The family will receive friends immediatel­y following the service at the church.

Her education legacy continues through the Olin and Millicent Cook Scholarshi­p which makes annual awards to high school and college students. Contributi­ons can be made to Russellvil­le First United Methodist Church,
