SHERIDAN — Petty Officer First Class Jason Carpenter,

32, of Sheridan, born May 4, 1987, to Mike and Denise Carpenter, passed away on Thursday, March 5, in Fallon, Nevada.

Petty Officer Carpenter is survived by his wife, Normita, and two children, Cassie Anne and Colton Jason, of Fallon, Nevada; his parents, Mike and Denise Carpenter, grandmothe­r, JoAnne Carpenter, sister, Samantha (Shane) Clanton from Benton; father- and mother-inlaw, Jaime and Albina Cabebe of Honolulu, Hawaii, and a multitude of loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparen­ts, Samuel and Yvonne Mullin and Donald Carpenter, aunt, Debbie Carpenter, and uncle, Ronald Mullin.

Jason grew up in Sheridan, Arkansas, where he was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Youth, Boy Scouts, and the SHS band. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 2006.

Jason enlisted in the United States Navy on September 5, 2007, and was stationed in Guam; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Port Hueneme, California, and Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada. During that time, he received two Navy Achievemen­t Medals, four Good Conduct awards, a Meritoriou­s Unit Commendati­on, two Overseas Service awards, a National Defense award, a Pistol Sharpshoot­er and a Rifle Sharpshoot­er awards, and has received the Navy Commendati­on Medal posthumous­ly.

A Graveside Service for Petty Officer Carpenter is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with Rev. Todd-Paul Taulbee officiatin­g. Burial with full military honors will follow. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at Pinecrest Funeral Home. A celebratio­n of Jason’s life will be at First United Methodist Church of Sheridan at a later date. Honorary pallbearer­s are, Alexander Cabebe; Jovenel Cera; Shane Clanton; Brent Wagner; Zach Johnson; James Carpenter; and Colby Johnson.
