88, of Dumas, Ark., passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020. She was born on April 28, 1931, in Rison, Ark., to the late Florence and William Tyler. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles Gavin and daughter-in-law, Vanessa Gavin.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Eddie) Anderson of Oakland, Tenn.; Don Gavin of Katy, Texas; Sherry (Allen) Bird of Little Rock, Ark., and stepdaught­er, Becky (Bob) Horton of Lakeland, Tenn. She is also survived by her older sisters, Frances Wilson of Rison, Ark., and Marie Sadler Bennett of Little Rock, Ark. (formerly of Pine Bluff). Grandchild­ren include Karie Perkins, Randy Perkins, Terri (Corey) Shapuras, Melissa (Chris) Pope and Lisa Gavin; seven great-grandchild­ren and four great-great-grandchild­ren.

Dorothy was a proud military wife and supported Charles during his 23 years of service, posted at the Pine Bluff Arsenal, Japan, Arizona, and Germany. Upon Charles’ retirement from the U.S. Army, they moved to Dumas, Ark., which welcomed them with loving and open arms where she lived for 55 years. She worked for the United Dollar Store corporate office and retired from the Dollar General Store distributi­on center.
