HOT SPRINGS — Sybil Todd Laing

died March 23, 2020. Sybil was born October 16, 1939, in Little Rock, Ark. She was preceded in death by her son, Todd Laing; her parents, W.J. and Lois Todd; and sister Mary Jo Todd Pilcher.

Sybil, was a dedicated wife, mom, momma, grandmomma, sister-in-law and auntie. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Nelson “Buddy” Laing; son Gregory Nelson Laing (Karen); and daughter Laurie Ann Laing; grandsons Nelson Laing, Justin Laing and Christophe­r Laing, and an extended family of cherished nephews and nieces.

Sybil was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and the Saints and Sinners Sunday School class Hot Springs. Sybil served on the Board of Stewards, Executive Committee, Dream Team, Family Life Committee, Bereavemen­t Committee, Mentors and the Mentees Group. She also served as a Lay communion Server.

Sybil graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1957 and the University of Arkansas with high honors in 1961. She taught English at Southwest Junior High School in Little Rock, Ark., and at Benton High School, Benton, La. In 1971, Sybil founded the Stitchin’ Post in Little Rock. It was the premier fabric store in bridal, fashion fabric, English smocking, heirloom sewing and quilting. Sybil owned the store for 36 years before selling it in 2007.

Sybil will be remembered for her abundant love for her family and friends, and especially for the love of her life, Buddy. Sybil and Buddy met in the seventh grade and their love and devotion to each other grew stronger every day. Sybil was known for her hospitalit­y. She loved to cook for her family and friends and all were welcomed into her home with open arms. Sybil’s calendar was full of birthdays of relatives and friends. She was always cooking and taking food to others. Sybil had a loving spirit and was kind to everyone. She loved her God, her Buddy, her family, her friends, and her church.

The funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs and a memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Due to the virus, services in both Little Rock and Hot Springs will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorials (in honor of Sybil) may be made to the Hot Springs United Methodist Church or a charitable organizati­on of your choice.
