EVERETT EUGENE THOMPSON

was born on July 22, 1923 to Eugene and Ethel Miller Thompson in Pocahontas, Ark. He died on March 22, 2020 in Maumelle, Ark. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1941 and from the University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le, with a BS degree in Electrical Engineerin­g in 1949. He was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

On July 3, 1948, he married Flora Lee Casey at the First Methodist Church in Russellvil­le, Ark. They were married almost 72 years. Mr. Thompson was a devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r.

Mr. Thompson served stateside in WWII in the Army Signal Corps and Army Air Corps. He was called up during the Korean Conflict and served as an instructor at the Air Force Reserve Training Center in Birmingham, Ala. He retired from the USAF Reserve in 1973 at the rank of

Lt.Colonel with 31 years of service to our country. He graduated from the War College of Air University in 1974.

Mr. Thompson was a profession­al electrical engineer, employed by Arkansas Power and Light Company (now Entergy) as a Distributi­on Planning Engineer from 1949-1988. After retiring from AP&L he worked part-time as a system planning consultant for the electric utility systems Conway Corp. In 1981 He was selected as the Engineer of the Year by the Arkansas Society of Profession­al Engineers. In 1984, He was elected a member of the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers. He received the IEEE Centennial Medal for having made outstandin­g contributi­ons in the field of electrical engineerin­g.

Everett and Lee were charter members of the Saint Luke United Methodist Church that was organized in 1956. Everett served as a Pine Bluff District Lay Leader of the Little Rock Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Little Rock from 1985 until his death.

Mr. Thompson was a charter member of the Intercity Kiwanis Club in Pine Bluff and served as a Lieutenant Governor for the Mo/ Ark District. He was recognized with the Internatio­nal Kiwanis President’s Award for outstandin­g achievemen­t in membership developmen­t. At his death he was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Little Rock and a strong supporter of Pfeifer Camp in Ferndale, Ark. He was a Scoutmaste­r of Troop 253 and Adviser with Post 253 in Pine Bluff and under his leadership five scouts earned their Eagle rank.

Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Mae Galbraith Thompson; his sister, Eileen Moore and brother Samuel W. Thompson. His living descendant­s are: his wife, Lee Thompson; his two sons, Dr. T.T. Tyler Thompson and Rev. Davis (Laura) Thompson; his two daughters, Lee Anne (Greg) Thompson Berson and Vikki (Steve) Thompson Hamilton; nine grandchild­ren, Andy (Amber) Hamilton, August Thompson, Suzanne (Russ) Barnard, Casey (John) Loftus, Mikelle (Jeremiah) Elliott, Meredith Berson, Bailey (Devon) Hamilton, Colby Hamilton and Dawson Hamilton; eight great-grandchild­ren, Charlotte Barnard, Nathaniel Barnard, Willow Ross, Jacob Loftus, Cora Loftus, Hannah Loftus, Margo Elliott and Everett Hamilton.

Mr. Thompson’s service of death and resurrecti­on will be at the First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, Ark., and the interment of his ashes will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark. The date and time of the service of death and resurrecti­on and interment are pending.
