PINE BLUFF — George Wilson Lipe Sr.,

90, of Pine Bluff, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020. He was born December 20, 1929 in Sunflower County, Mississipp­i, to the late Cornelius Holbert and Cora Dunn Lipe.

George was reared and early educated in the Mississipp­i Delta and graduated from Grenada High School. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. George attended Delta State in Cleveland, Mississipp­i where he played football and baseball and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then went on to Mississipp­i State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1962 and started work at the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a research biologist, and then retired from the NCTR.

George enjoyed watching sports, and also enjoyed studying genealogy. He was a member of the former Southside Baptist Church (currently Family Church), where he served as a deacon and a past treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Carol Buckley Lipe, whom he married June 7, 1958 in Edwards, Mississipp­i; grandson, Jonathon Lipe, brother, Charles Lipe; and sister, Theresa Tatum. Survivors include his three children, George W. Lipe Jr. of Pine Bluff, John J. Lipe (Gayle) of Mooresvill­e, Indiana and Kelly Ann Lipe of Holly Springs, Georgia; special daughter, Annette Swint; granddaugh­ter, Amanda Marie Lipe; and great granddaugh­ter, Natalie Marie Lipe.
