PINE BLUFF — George Wilson Lipe Sr.,
90, of Pine Bluff, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020. He was born December 20, 1929 in Sunflower County, Mississippi, to the late Cornelius Holbert and Cora Dunn Lipe.
George was reared and early educated in the Mississippi Delta and graduated from Grenada High School. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. George attended Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi where he played football and baseball and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then went on to Mississippi State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1962 and started work at the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a research biologist, and then retired from the NCTR.
George enjoyed watching sports, and also enjoyed studying genealogy. He was a member of the former Southside Baptist Church (currently Family Church), where he served as a deacon and a past treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Carol Buckley Lipe, whom he married June 7, 1958 in Edwards, Mississippi; grandson, Jonathon Lipe, brother, Charles Lipe; and sister, Theresa Tatum. Survivors include his three children, George W. Lipe Jr. of Pine Bluff, John J. Lipe (Gayle) of Mooresville, Indiana and Kelly Ann Lipe of Holly Springs, Georgia; special daughter, Annette Swint; granddaughter, Amanda Marie Lipe; and great granddaughter, Natalie Marie Lipe.
