SHERIDAN — Joy Plummer Black
of Sheridan, Arkansas was born April 18, 1942 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Roy and Mavis Gately Plummer. She was a graduate of North Little Rock High School where she was a cheerleader for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sheridan, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed shopping, sun bathing, dancing to James Brown music, drinking wine, and watching soap operas. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. Joy passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at UAMS at the age of 78.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors: husband of 53 years and her best friend, Preston Black of Sheridan; sons, Kevin (Lisa) Wood of Benton, Kraig (Shawna) Wood of Shreveport, Louisiana, Jamey (Melinda) Black of Sheridan; daughter, Christy (Patrick) Gladney of Shreveport, Louisiana; twin brother, Jerry Plummer of Sacramento, California; grandchildren, Camille Gladney, Madelene Covington, Zack Wood, Devin Wood, Joshua Wood, Jacob Wood, and James Preston Wood III; two great-grandchildren, Eli Covington and Lukas Wood and a host of extended family members and friends.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2020 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Bro. Tim McMinn officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Due to Covid 19, social distancing and face masks are encouraged. Pallbearers will be her sons and her grandsons.
