AUGUSTA — Jane U. Miller,

loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2020 at her home in Augusta, Ark., at the age of 85.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Miller of Augusta, and her two sons, Stewart A. Miller of Augusta, and Brian S. Miller and Donna Jean Miller of Goose Creek, S.C. She is also survived by her six grandchild­ren: Ethan Miller, Jacob Miller, Christophe­r Breece, Joshua Breece, Samuel Breece, and Rebekah Breece.

Jane U. Miller was born on July 21, 1934 in Fisher, Ark., to Robert and Fredda Balch Urie. She graduated from Weiner High School in 1952, Arkansas State College in 1956, and received a Master’s in Library Science from the University of Central Arkansas in 1978. In 1956, she married James A. Miller, and in 1960 moved to Augusta, Ark., where she taught school for several years. In 1978, she became the librarian for Augusta High School, a position she held until she retired in 2006. In 1964, she also became the organist for the First Baptist Church of Augusta, playing there until her passing.

She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma teacher’s sorority, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter L.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, May 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Augusta. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 26, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the First Baptist Church of Augusta, or to an organizati­on of your choice. Due to the most recent COVID-19 directive, attendance is strictly limited to 64 people and face covering must be worn at all times.
