HOPE — Charles William Wylie

of Hope, Arkansas died on June 16, 2020. Never Charles or Charlie (and only to a brave few, Chops), he was born July 4, 1941 to Mildred Beauclair and Charles Sanford Wylie in Little Rock.

After attending Hope High School and Henderson State, he married Myra Cox. They eventually settled in Hope and had two children. Charles William was a natural salesman and drove the back roads of Southern Arkansas (all while reading the newspaper) selling corrugated boxes to large and small businesses. He believed that every single person in a company was important and made it his passion to know everyone’s names - from the custodian to the CEO. And was known to send notes to each one for whatever reason he could think of (though many had no idea what they said because his handwriting was atrocious!)

Charles William enjoyed hustling a game of pool to any unsuspecting sucker. And he took great pride in working in his yard for many years, including his fancy black tulips from Holland. While not a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Charles William took pleasure in following the Razorbacks to many Southwest Conference football and basketball games all over the state of Texas. And despite not water skiing himself, he loved to take his family out on Narrows Lake every weekend for more than ten years where he drove the boat for hours while the children skied. He was known as the most charismatic and polite SOB anyone had ever met.

Charles William is survived by his wife of almost fifty-five years, Myra Elizabeth Cox; one daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Wylie Conder and John Conder of Heath, Texas; one son, George Christopher Wylie and Mary Kate Paul of Plano, Texas; and three grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Tadlock, Andrew Tadlock, and Layla Wylie.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later time. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 400, Hope, Ark., 71802 where he was the most absent member, yet reaped the benefits of Myra’s activity.
