EL DORADO — Shirley R. Hurley,

-

85, of El Dorado passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at her residence.

Born March 2, 1935 in Fort Smith, Ark., she was the daughter of Thomas Julian and Margaret Horne Richards. Happily married to Ed Hurley for over 50 years, Shirley was a homemaker and member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church.

Shirley attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she was a Razorback Beauty and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Shirley was happiest outside, whether playing tennis or golf or pulling weeds in her yard and loved contributing to her community through her Master Gardener’s group, especially at Hope Landing. A long-time supporter of UCAPS, she was passionate about animals, from turtles in the yard to hummingbirds at her feeders. Many dogs and cats were part of her life and she loved them all.

She worked tirelessly as the Hospitality Chairman at First Presbyterian Church, hosting countless receptions and feeding hundreds over the years. As past president of the El Dorado Charity League (El Dorado Service League) and a member of the Silver Kickers, Shirley was all about having fun and doing good.

Her positive energy was an inspiration to her family and friends. Her kindness and infectious smile was happily offered to all she met. Affectionately called Mammy by her four grandkids, her greatest source of pride was her family.

Thanks be to God for Shirley Hurley!

Preceding her in death along with her parents were her husband, Louis Edward Hurley, Jr. and a sister, Jean Falkenstein.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Harper (Dr. William) of El Dorado and Annette Hurley (Candi Grace) of Little Rock. Surviving grandchildren are Caroline Hardin of Conway, Ark., William Harper, III, Annaleigh Harper both of Little Rock and Suzannah Harper of Hope.
