PHYLLIS HOLLINGSWO­RTH “THE QUEEN” LAMB

of North Little Rock, Ark., was born December 2, 1936, and departed this life on June 27, 2020. Phyllis graduated from Dunbar High School in 1954, where she was the first female drum major, a majorette, and a member of the Thespian club. She attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. She graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She later received her Master’s Degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) with an emphasis in elementary education.

Phyllis was employed by the LRSD and served as an elementary school counselor and social worker in many schools. She was also, principle at Gateway Alternativ­e School. Her love and passion for education has blessed countless people. She retired after 29 years of service.

Phyllis professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Little Rock, Ark. She was active as a teen and young adult; Phyllis served the Young People’s Department and the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) for 55 years and became a Life Member in 1999. She has many accolades, honors and achievemen­ts. She was appointed as the 12th Episcopal District President of the AME church WMS by the late Bishop H. Hartford Brookins from 1988 – 1997; she is the only past WMS President to be honored with the title President Emeritus by the late Bishop Frederick Hilborn Talbot; and in 2005, Bethel LR formed the P.H. Lamb Missionary Unit for young women under the age of 40.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Eustace Howard and Kathryn Mitchell Hollingswo­rth, her sister Kathryn Connie Hollingswo­rth Thomas, her oldest son, Richard Simmons, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, the Rev. Thurston B. Lamb, Sr; her children Phillip Simmons, Mitchell Simmons, Malcolm (Vickii) Simmons, Mark (Naoko) Simmons, Monita (Elbert) Thomas, Suzanne (Oscar) Ornelas, Thurston (Wakita) Lamb, Jr., Rev. Tameka Lamb (Rev. Kelly) Green, Shannon Lamb (Gilbert) McCauley; a host of grandchild­ren, two greatgrand­children, a host of relatives and special friends.

The graveside service will be held at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Little Rock, Ark., on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 10 a.m. Services have been entrusted to Willis Funeral Home of McGehee, Ark.
