DARDANELLE — Carlos Neil Mitchell,

age 78, of Dardanelle, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellvil­le. He was born December 11, 1941, in Russellvil­le, to the late Boss Mitchell and Kathryn Waters Mitchell. Carlos graduated from Danville High School in 1959, where he held the record from 1959 – 1983 for the 100 Yard Dash, 10.1 seconds. Then he went on to graduate from the U of A in Fayettevil­le where he was a member of the AGR Fraternity. He held the position of Yell County Sheriff from 1969-1976 and also worked for FEMA under the direction of James Lee Witt from 1994-2005. He loved being at his farm, taking care of his tree farm, deer hunting, and he was always in search of the best fried pies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Noel Jones Mitchell; and one brother, Charles Mitchell.

Survivors include his three daughters, Carla Dawson (Mark) of Conway, Amy McEntyre (Chris) of Dardanelle, Wendy Davis (Mark) of Danville; and six grandchild­ren, Madelyn Davis of Danville, Alyssa and Ashton McEntyre of Dardanelle, Callie, Mattie and Lillie Dawson all of Conway.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Earl Ladd Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle.
