DAVID LARRY “DOC” DAUGHTERY

was called home to heaven on Saturday, July 18, 2020. He has spent the last 10 1/2 months in Baptist Health Hospice in a determined battle with COPD.

David was born to Frank and Harriet Daugherty on April 21, 1939 in Canonsburg, Pa. In his youth he was nicknamed “Doc”. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Caroline Shirey. He is survived by his wife, Judy Hammett Daugherty, and daughter, Debra Daugherty-Ruiz. He considered his son-in-law, Nomar Jessit Ruiz as a son and comrade. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Donald Daugherty of Canonsburg, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 there will not be a public service. Private burial will be at Monk Cemetery. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Before retiring from the U. S. Air Force and serving three years in the U.S. Army he obtained Associates Degrees in Forestry Conservati­on and Automotive Engineerin­g. He loved the out of doors, but made his living working as a mechanic. In the final years of his career he worked as a tool salesman for Sears at McCain Mall. He became well known for his blue eyes, sweet smile and pocket full of candy. His Christian faith and belief that you should always treat everyone the way you wanted to be treated never wavered. He prayed daily for his family and friends never refusing to help anyone.
