HOT SPRINGS — A man was arrested Sunday night after a shooting during an apparent confrontation on Old Brundage Road, according to the Garland County sheriff’s office.

Ryan Lamar Payton, 33, who lists a Lakeland Drive address, was taken into custody shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Old Brundage and charged with first-degree battery, accused of shooting a man in the chest.

Payton was released on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 31 in Garland County District Court.

According to a probable-cause affidavit and a report released Monday, the sheriff’s office received a call shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday regarding a vehicle accident on Old Brundage Road south of Burley Lane. While deputies were en route, they were advised that a person had been shot at the site of the accident.

Deputies arrived and saw a white truck stopped behind a silver passenger car, both facing north on Old Brundage, according to the documents. Lukas Jack, 31, was lying in the roadway behind the white truck with other people giving him medical assistance.

According to the records, Payton got out of the silver car and put his hands in the air without instruction and he was taken into custody.

Jack, suffering from a single gunshot wound, was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. His condition was unknown Monday.

Deputies observed a black handgun lying on the driver’s seat of the silver car that Payton had exited, which was recovered as evidence, the records said.

The affidavit did not indicate what may have led up to the shooting, but listed three witnesses at the scene. The shooting remained under investigation Monday.
