Southwood closes on-campus classes

-

Southwood Elementary School will cancel in-person classes, starting today because of coronavirus infections among the Southwood staff members, according to a letter fr0m Superintendent Barbara Warren.

Southwood will pivot to virtual instruction and resume classes on campus Oct. 5. This will apply only to the Southwood campus. All other campuses will be open for instruction, Warren said.

The expectation is that teachers and students will still be engaged in teaching and learning activities during this time. Southwood families are asked to expect further communication from teachers and the principal, Warren said.

“Southwood parents, if your student is a face-to-face student who does not have access to their device, please plan to pick up your student’s Chromebook from Southwood Elementary between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020. If you cannot come to the school during that time, please contact your student’s teacher for a scheduled time,” Warren said.

Lunch will be available for pickup at Southwood Elementary from 10:30 a.m.-noon while virtual students continue their lunch pickup at Belair on Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

“Covid-19 has brought some uncertain times,” Warren’s statement said. “This communication serves as an update on a sensitive matter that we are handling with an abundance of caution. We are committed to openness and transparency in our communication with you.”
