SHARON SHEMWELL THOMPSON.

-

May 24, 1945, to October 16, 2020. Mom, Gamma, Aunt Sharon, left this earth for a better place at age 75. Born in Little Rock, Mom moved with her parents, Ralph and Henrietta (Morehart) Shemwell, to Mabelvale, Ark. At school, Mom discovered one of her first callings – that of cheerleader –for the Mabelvale High Lions. Mom met Dad, Harold Thompson, in 1962. They married in January 1965 and have spent almost 56 years together.

She was raised Methodist. Married in Mabelvale United Methodist Church, she and Dad were later founding members of St. Andrew’s. Mom and Dad last worshiped at Lakewood Methodist. She believed in volunteering and did so with Sisters in Stitches and the church’s Under the Bridge ministry to the homeless. Mom and Dad went on several mission trips to Mexico.

She was generous, kind, and selfless. Always cooking a meal for friend or family. Mom never met an animal she didn’t love. Except snakes.

A doting mother to Ragenea. A tireless grandmother to Walker. Basketball games will never be the same without Gamma yelling from the stands. We are certain she helped cheer the Razorbacks to victory last Saturday.

We will continue to celebrate Mom’s life at 1 p.m., this Friday, October 23, at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Road, North Little Rock, 72116. The service will follow suggested COVID-19 protocol. In lieu of flowers, support one of Mom’s church missions by making a donation to Lakewood Methodist.
