Negligent homicide is charged

-

A Little Rock man is facing a negligent homicide charge after crashing into a stalled SUV on Interstate 30, killing a man who had stopped to help, according to authorities.

The crash happened just after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report. Anthony Brian King, 37, had stopped his Jeep Wrangler ahead of a Ford Expedition that had stalled on the Arkansas River bridge, the report states.

Troopers said King was assisting the driver of the SUV when a third vehicle, a Dodge Dakota driven by 54-year-old Victor Harmon, crashed into the SUV and pushed it into King.

The crash killed King, while Harmon and a 62-yearold passenger in his vehicle were injured, according to the report.

Authorities described conditions as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said Harmon faces a charge of negligent homicide. He was booked into the Pulaski County jail and remained there Wednesday morning, according to on online inmate roster.

Harmon also faces one count each of fraud in application, registration or title of vehicle, and driving while license canceled, suspended or revoked, the roster shows.

Records indicate that at least 500 people have died on Arkansas roads so far this year.

The Little Rock District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System because of rainfall in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.

Small craft advisories are issued when water flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft during high flows.

River flows at Van Buren are above the 70,000 level and are cresting near 100,000 cubic feet per second. River flows at Dardanelle are near 140,000 cubic feet per second and are forecast to crest near 160,000 cubic feet per second. A crest flow near 150,000 cubic feet per second will make its way downstream through the weekend.
