Our day of reflection

-

Veterans Day, a day to reflect upon the year 2020. This year has surely been a roller coaster of a ride. The economy dipped, jobs were lost and guidelines for a new normal were presented and enforced.

Many have tested positive and many died from covid-19, a new virus that raised its ugly head earlier this year. Most of us are safe and protected while self-quarantined, afraid to go out in fear that we might contract this virus. Families remain distant so as not to risk exposing the elders to this deadly foe.

New heroes have emerged. The hospital workers, the doctors and the nurses. Working arduous hours trying to care for and save those under their care. We’ve touted them as heroes and the title is deserving and fit. And through all this pandemic, one business has not faltered. One business has not furloughed one person. One business remains vigilant 24 hours a day ready to deploy on a moment’s notice to protect the whole of America.

That business: the United States military. These men and women have not given in to the pandemic; they can’t, as America relies upon them to keep our great country free from all threat.

It is on this day, Veterans Day, we take pause to honor all veterans, those that have served and those that are serving. We may have forgotten these heroes in the wake of the pressing issue of a pandemic, but they are there, ready to do whatever necessary to protect your way of life. To protect the freedoms that we have become accustomed to. To protect your dreams of what’s to come.

So on this day, thanking a veteran for their service goes a long way. Such a small token for such a grand sacrifice. To all my fellow veterans and comrades in arms, I salute you, I thank you for your selfless service to this great country and I thank you for keeping us free. May God continue to bless this great country.
