MARK STEPHEN LOBER
passed away on October 29, 2020, in Little Rock, Ark., after a long battle with three strokes, Multiple Myeloma, and finally succumbing to COVID-19. Mark was born in Rochester, New York, on July 11, 1953, and has lived in Houston, Texas, for over 30 years.
Mark will be remembered for many things – his skill and love for geophysics, unconditional love for family and friends, and his personal and professional integrity. He had a zest for life, overcoming adversities with humor and strength of character. Mark leaves this world with a life well-lived, a loving heart, and a lasting legacy.
Mark received his BS in Geology and Physics from SUNY Brockport. He went on to receive his MS in Geophysics from Boston College. Mark’s 40-year career as a Geophysicist included Sohio, AMOCO and Amerada Hess, before forming his own company, Caltex Gas Exploration, LLC in 2003. He worked throughout the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, Africa, and Italy.
Some of Mark’s pastimes included acrobatic flying, guitar, golf, horses, reading, chess, cards, and cycling 20 miles to Fulshear, Texas every day.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Vera, his brother, Tom, and his son, Peter. He is the beloved husband of 25 years to Kathy Johnson Lober. Mark is the loving father of Heidi Lober Mauldin, Matthew James Lober and wife Jennifer, and Tricia Lober Ragsdale and husband Kellen. He is the devoted grandfather of Lexi Lober, Matthew Lober, Grace Mauldin, Presley Mauldin, Jackson Bouse, and Brooklyn Bouse. He was a big brother to Mary Aquilino and husband Steve, Tom Lober (deceased) and wife Nancy, and Peg Palmieri and husband, Mark. He is also survived by Jeanne Breunig Lober, the mother of his children, as well as nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Mark’s family would like to sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at UAMS for their heartfelt effort and dedication towards Mark’s care.
Mark will live as joy in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. He leads by example, and, as the song says, is forever our “Leader of the Band”.
