Holiday cheer

-

The nation’s largest private employer keeps finding ways to lift spirits during this pandemic. You may recall a couple of months ago, Walmart started showing movies in its parking lots at some locations for free. Now Big Blue has another bright idea.

The covid-19 virus can be blamed for a lack of Christmas parades and in-person (crowded) visits to see downtown lights. Fayetteville, in particular, always has some of the best Christmas decorations in Arkansas. But things are different this year.

With restrictions on what folks can do to celebrate the holidays, Walmart has decided to put on a show:

“Walmart will light up the Fayetteville sky with a holiday drone light show at the 112 Drive-In this December. With nearly 1,000 Intel drones launched into the night’s sky, the show will create 3D seasonal shapes and characters, like snowflakes, reindeer, snowmen and holiday presents, choreographed to a soundtrack of classic and modern holiday favorites, from ‘Frosty the Snowman’ by Bing Crosby to ‘Run Run Rudolph’ by Kelly Clarkson,” KNWA reports.

Talk about some Christmas spirit. They don’t even need flying reindeer.

Making use of the drive-in theater space is smart. Folks can come in their cars and avoid getting close to one another.

Best part? You don’t have to wear a mask in your own vehicle.

You can reserve free tickets at www.walmartdroneshow.com. Apparently tickets will be beamed to your phone or something. Then you show them on the day of the show.

Here’s hoping we can all find safe ways to enjoy the holidays. One of our favorite traditions? Getting in the car and driving around to look at local Christmas lights. You don’t need a mask for that, either.
