age 79, of Sherwood died Thursday, January 14, after complicati­ons from congestive heart failure, double pneumonia, Alzheimer’s, and Covid.

For the last 20 years, he was married to Sherry Schultz, his beloved wife. He was preceded in death by his first love and wife of over 40 years, Judith Gene Schultz. He is survived by his sons, Robert Scott Schultz and Alvin Richard Schultz; and stepson, Jonathan Glenn Piker; and adopted son, Michael Bird. He was blessed with grandchild­ren Daniel Schultz, Amber Owens, Madeline Schultz, and Emma Schultz; and great-grandchild­ren, Jackson Piker, Connor Owens, Aubrey Owens, and Ezekiel Owens. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Schultz; and nephews Karl and Kenneth Schultz.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 27, 1941, to parents Alvin A. Schultz Sr. and Louise E. Schultz. He was a graduate of North Little Rock High School as well as a University of Arkansas graduate where he obtained a Criminal Justice degree. His lifelong dream to become a police officer became reality on July 1, 1974, with the North Little Rock Police Department. He continued to work there for over 20 years until his retirement. He then went to work for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s department for numerous years. Later, he returned to the North Little Rock Police Department to work cold case files for several more years. His greatest joy was serving others as a police officer.

A Christian funeral service will be held Saturday, January 23. Viewing is from 10:30-10:45 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. at the outside pavilion in Rest Hills Memorial Park, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory.
