With their recent acquisition of All-Star guard James Harden from the Houston Rockets, the Brooklyn Nets officially joined the ranks of superteam and they’ll be on display today against Atlantic Division rivals when they host Kyle Lowry and the struggling Toronto Raptors. Teamed with forward Kevin Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving, the Nets certainly have the firepower to compete for an NBA title. The only question is how quickly rookie head coach Steve Nash can blend these disparate talents into a cohesive force.

7 p.m. on LMN Movie: Killer Advice

Where’s Dr. Frasier Crane when you need him? Or even his stuffier brother, Niles? Beth, a young woman who recently suffered a horrific attack, probably finds herself pondering this question after her friends and family urge her to seek counseling to recover from her trauma. Unfortunately, the shrink in question is definitely not what the doctor ordered in this 2021 melodrama. Kate Watson, Meredith Thomas, Steve Richard Harris and Eric Roberts star.

Kevin Willmott co-wrote (with Trai Byers of “Empire”) and directed this earnest 2020 historical drama that chronicles the true story of the Houston riot of 1917. The film takes its title from the name of a Black military regiment that, despite their loyal military service, is targeted for racial discrimination by the all-white Houston police force, as well as the city’s white residents. Co-screenwriter Byers also heads the cast, supported by Aja Naomi King (“How to Get Away With Murder”), Bashir Salahuddin, Mo McRae, Mykelti Williamson and Thomas Haden Church.

8 p.m. on SHOW Movie: Made in Italy

Better known for his work as an actor, James D’Arcy (“Agent Carter”) wrote and made his feature directorial debut with this engaging 2020 comedy-drama starring Liam Neeson as a celebrated artist who tries to reconnect with his estranged son (played by Neeson’s real-life son, Micheál Richardson) while the two of them are in Italy to repair and sell a home that belonged to the former’s late wife. Valeria Bilello, Lindsay Duncan and Marco Quaglia also star.

Based on a story by Antwone Fisher, himself the subject of an earlier movie, this heartfelt drama focuses on young Atlanta friends bonded by their passion for roller skating. One (Tip Harris, alias rapper T.I.) is an orphan watching over his younger brother (Evan Ross, son of Diana) — who could use the guidance, having fallen in with a drug peddler (Big Boi of music’s OutKast). Mykelti Williamson, Keith David and Lonette McKee also star.

9 p.m. on FX The New York Times Presents

The new episode “Framing Britney Spears” revisits the meteoric rise and devastating fall of a pop superstar whose life and career today seems to exist primarily within the boundaries of a baffling court battle that, however improbably, seems to be re-energizing her fans. As these proceedings address painfully personal issues in the public arena, however, her case has raised pointed questions about mental health and the rights of an individual.

10 p.m. on HBO Painting With John
