Get that kitchen in shape with tips from YouTube content creators

- BY GEORGE DICKIE

The holidays are history. You’re bored, quarantined and likely looking for a project to distract you from what is surely a long, cold winter ahead. So why not take a look at the kitchen?

Yes, any home cook worth their salt knows that an organized kitchen not only saves space but also is the key to a smooth-functioning cooking operation. And from that, better meals will undoubtedly result.

A number of videos and channels on YouTube take on this very topic, a few of which are detailed below.

“10 Easy Kitchen Organization Ideas 2021” (www.youtube.com/watch?vPzdRG5epr4Q): Get the new year off right with interior designer Kristen McGowan, your host for this informative video that offers up budget-friendly ways of getting your kitchen in order, focusing on the countertop, pantry, cupboard and drawers. With a little imagination and a few glass containers, she transforms a kitchen in disarray into one that looks neat and tidy, if not stylish. She even has ideas for what to do with that open bag of pet food.

“Refrigerator Organization Ideas” (www.youtube.com/watch?vgvfkR6fw1lw): Another area that seems to be a magnet for disorganization and mess is the fridge. This video from LGQueen Home Decor tackles the problem starting with giving the appliance a good cleaning inside and out. Then, clear containers for items like eggs, fruits and vegetables allow for at-a-glance access to contents. In the end, they say, you’ll have more room, there will be a place for everything and things won’t look so cluttered.

“Small Pantry Organization” (www.youtube.com/watch?vGb3qOZIPtfA): From Carissa Nunez of “Carissa Cleans It All” comes this video in which she uses inexpensive organizers, glass jars and dry food containers to get her small closet pantry in ship shape and maximize its limited space. And the best part of it is the cost for the materials comes in at just under $100. Just the solution for those on a budget

“Master the Mess” (www.youtube.com/ watch?v52017XT9rHg): Yes, it has production values more on par with a reality show but this series from professional organizers Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin offers up some legitimate solutions as they tend to their clients’ home organization problems in the Nashville, Tenn., area. Two videos that address the pantry and fridge aim to resolve some messy and in some cases unhealthy storage situations.
