CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts — John Morikis, chairman and CEO of The Sherwin-Williams Co., is the new chair of the Policy Advisory Board of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies.
“As our policy advisory board enters its 50th year of supporting housing research at Harvard, I couldn’t be more pleased to have John at the helm,” said Chris Herbert, managing director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies. “He brings nearly four decades of experience in the U.S. housing industry that will be invaluable in helping the PAB further its mission of advancing housing as a national priority.”
Morikis has been the CEO of SherwinWilliams since 2015. He began his career as a management trainee with the company in 1984 and is the first management trainee to become CEO.
Morikis also serves as vice chairman of the University Hospital System in Cleveland and is a member of the boards of directors of Fortune Brands Home and Security, the American Coatings Association and the Greater Cleveland Partnership. He holds bachelor’s degrees in business administration and psychology from St. Joseph’s College in New York and a master’s degree in business from National Louis University in Chicago.
In 2020, Morikis also led the effort to establish an Inclusion and Diversity Forum for the Policy Advisory Board, as an opportunity for listening, learning and bestpractice sharing on attracting, engaging, developing and progressing underrepresented talent throughout PAB companies while building inclusive cultures.
“I am honored to step into the chair position of the PAB,” Morikis said. “The center is an important and trusted source of information and analysis of housing-market conditions, and I look forward to doing my part to help both the center and the PAB build bridges between industry, policy and academia.”
The center also announced that the Policy Advisory Board’s new vice chair is Robert Schottenstein, chairman, president and CEO of M/I Homes.
The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies advances understanding of housing issues and informs policy.
